About this workshop

Color Theory is more than just a visual concept—it’s a powerful design tool that can transform the way you select and arrange flowers. In this hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop, students will explore the fundamentals of color theory through the medium of floral design, guided by the expert instructors at the Cass School of Floral Design.

Whether you’re completely new to flower arranging or have a few bouquets under your belt, this workshop offers an inspiring and approachable experience. It’s designed as a fun, social activity—ideal for anyone 18 and older who wants to explore their creativity in a supportive group setting. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of how to use color to create visual harmony, contrast, and emotion in your arrangements, as well as a beautiful floral piece to take home.

Throughout the session, you’ll learn to identify and apply key color relationships—complementary, analogous, monochromatic, and more—using fresh, seasonal flowers. You’ll work with a curated selection of blooms and foliage to explore how hue, saturation, and value can be used intentionally to create mood and balance. As you design your own arrangement, you’ll receive guidance and one-on-one support from Cass School’s master instructors, who bring decades of experience in both floral design and teaching.

This class is much more than arranging flowers—it’s an exploration of the connections between color, nature, and personal expression. Along the way, we’ll cover a wide range of related topics, including botanical facts, tips for choosing and sourcing flowers (from flower markets, local farms, or even your backyard), and care techniques to help your arrangements stay fresh longer. We also explore the historical and cultural significance of certain color combinations and flower types—adding layers of meaning to your work.

The workshop size is intentionally kept small to ensure every student has ample time for feedback and questions. You’ll gain insight into current floral design trends, mechanics and techniques used by professionals, and learn how color theory is applied across different styles and occasions—from romantic weddings to bold modern displays.

Founded in 1979, the Cass School of Floral Design has trained thousands of hobbyists and professional florists. Our workshop model reflects our mission to make the art of floral design accessible, educational, and deeply enjoyable. Whether you’re here for inspiration, relaxation, or skill-building, you’ll find a welcoming community of fellow flower lovers.

All materials, including flowers, container, and tools, are included in the workshop fee. Every student will leave with a completed floral arrangement they’ve created, along with the knowledge and confidence to apply these color principles to future floral projects.

If you’re looking for a fresh, creative experience—whether solo, with a friend, or as a group—Color Theory offers an enriching way to learn, connect, and play with flowers.
