Sustainability
Rooted in Nature. Designed for the Future.
At the Cass School of Floral Design, sustainability isn’t a trend — it’s a mindset. As the floral industry evolves, so do we, and we're proud to be leaders in embracing eco-conscious practices that protect the planet while still celebrating beauty and creativity.
From the flowers we grow to the designs we teach, every decision we make is grounded in a deep respect for nature. Our commitment to sustainable floristry increasingly shapes our curriculum, our community, and our future.
Our Principles of Sustainable Floral Design
Reimagine, Reuse, Repeat
In the natural world, nothing is wasted — and we take our cue from that. At Cass, we’re serious about minimizing waste. We re-use vases, vessels, ribbons, and packaging materials again and again. Our students learn to see value in every element, from the tiniest bloom to the paper it’s wrapped in. We teach the importance of thoughtful consumption and creative repurposing — because beautiful design doesn’t need to be wasteful.
Responsible Sourcing
It starts in our own backyard — literally. We strive to grow many of our own flowers in our gardens, cultivating blooms that reflect the seasons and support local ecosystems. When we can’t grow it ourselves, we try to source locally from nearby farms that share our values: no pesticides, low environmental impact, and a commitment to ethical growing practices. By prioritizing local over imported flowers, we cut down on carbon emissions and support our community’s growers.
Foam-Free Floral Design
Floral foam might be convenient, but it’s harmful to the environment. That’s why we’re going foam-free. In many of our classes and designs, we teach alternative, sustainable mechanics that are just as effective — and far more environmentally friendly. Whether it's using chicken wire, floral frogs, or natural support systems, our students learn to build strong, stunning arrangements without compromising the health of our planet.
We’re not just teaching floral design — we’re shaping the future of floristry.
At the Cass School of Floral Design, we believe sustainability and creativity go hand in hand. Our mission is to empower the next generation of floral designers with the skills — and the values — to make meaningful, responsible, and lasting beauty.
Join us in designing a more sustainable world, one bloom at a time.
